Your Asian Wedding Planner

Questions to Ask Your Asian Wedding Planner...

So now you’ve decided to use an Asian Wedding Planner to organise your big day.  But how do you choose?  Wherever you live, there will be more than one, and in some cases, many companies to choose from.  If you have a word of mouth recommendation from someone whose judgement you trust, or if you’ve been to a great wedding and you know who organised it, then you have a head start.

But it pays to ask the right questions – the answers you hear could make all the difference to the success of your Asian wedding.  Not every Asian wedding planner will be right for you; you need to find one that is sympathetic to your vision, a person that you can get on with, really someone who is on the same wavelength as you when it comes to Asian weddings...

Check out the answers to these questions

  • How many weddings have you planned before?  You don’t want your only wedding to be a novice planner’s first.  This won’t happen with a larger, well-established company as there will always be an experienced senior in charge.
  • Do you have a good track record of keeping within your clients’ budgets?  Probably no one is going to answer ‘no’ to this question, but watch how seriously they take it and expect to hear something about how they monitor the budget throughout the process.
  • What is the largest wedding they have ever planned? Or the smallest?  This will give you an idea if they are experienced in planning the size of wedding you envisage.  If they’ve only ever handled 200 guests and you’re planning for 800, they might not be the planner for you.
  • Could you see some pictures of some of their previous weddings?  You want to see pictures of a variety of different weddings to get a feel for their experience.  If they only show you one, then you’re dealing with a novice.  This is also the time that you can start to get a feel for their individual style and whether it suits your vision of your wedding.
  • What are the most bizarre requests you’ve ever fulfilled?  You may not be looking for a live elephant or a cake shaped like a Ferrari, but if your wedding planner has sourced them for other people, you’ll know that he or she is willing to go that extra mile to keep the clients happy.
  • What is your fee structure?  Find out before you sign on the dotted line.  Your planner shouldn’t be asking for the whole cost of the wedding up front; you should be able to make staged payments in line with when suppliers would expect to be paid, with the final payment becoming due just before the wedding.
  • What happens if something goes wrong?  Choose your Asian wedding planner with care and nothing will go wrong...  Of course, no one can predict the unexpected so make sure that the package includes some insurance – then if disaster strikes and the venue burns down the week before, at least you won’t be out of pocket.  Ask your potential planner how they’ve handled problems at past events – there must have been some – you’re looking for an imaginative solution and a calm head.

Don’t make your decision until you’ve asked these questions to two or three different Asian wedding planners.  Then you’ll start to get a feel for who you could work with, which one is most impressive and who is going to deliver your perfect day.
